The new CNC machine in action
The MKW Group has completed a major investment in new state-of-the-art machining capability.
MKW Engineering has invested £700,000 in a six-metre five-axis computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining centre.
The CME MQ6000 can machine large steel or aluminium components up to 6 x 2.5 metres and is chiefly used for the Group's work in support of the defence, oil and gas industries.
Commissioned in October 2005, the machine is one of only a handful in Europe and was bought to increase the Group's manufacturing capacity and flexibility in the fulfilment of key defence contracts.
The Group has also installed a smaller five-axis machining centre at Stargate Precision Engineering at a cost of £250,000.
The Mazak 730 Vari-ax is a twin-pallet 750mm machining centre and is used to work on steel, aluminium and specialist aerospace materials to produce components for the sub-sea, defence and aerospace sectors.
“The new machines increase our ability to offer a flexible response to fulfil orders from a range of clients,” said Rahmon Nassor, Sales Director.
